Video: Matt Sweeney’s Hack Day Talk, "Web 2.0: Getting It Right the Second Time"
October 3, 2006 at 10:06 pm by Eric Miraglia | In Development, YUI Theater | 12 CommentsYUI developer Matt Sweeney gave one of the featured talks at last week’s Developer Day sessions leading into Hack Day. Matt, who has authored the YUI’s Animation Utility and most of the Dom Collection, is one of the lead CSS architects at Yahoo! and has been at the forefront of conversation in our frontend engineering community with respect to standards. His Developer Day talk, “Web 2.0: Getting It Right the Second Time,” articulates the philosophy of frontend architecture he has promoted here for many years.

Is there any way you can provide a transcript? Surely, Mr. Sweeney had a prepared script?

Michael — There is no transcript at present, but you can download the PowerPoint deck. -EM

Too bad you folks dont have any software that would analyze the video, do a little Automatic Speech Recognition on the voice and thus provide you with a transcript.

Can you just post this video to YouTube or Google Video please? The above embedded player has sound but no video, and Yahoo Video is completely busted.
Thanks.

For those writing in with video-player issues, please provide additional information about your problem and the specific OS, browser, and version you’re using. We’ll make sure all problem reports get to the Yahoo! Video team. -EM

Hi there!
By “completely busted” I mean that the Yahoo Video page complains that I don’t have the Flash Player 8 installed, the Microsoft Media Player, or Real Player.
No kidding, I’m running Linux! Macromedia haven’t released a version 8 Flash Player for Linux, and it looks like they aren’t going to bother.
I guess that’s why the embedded video above has sound but no picture — the Flash movie expects to run on version 8 but the sniff test isn’t as tight as that on the main Yahoo Video page.
I wouldn’t usually complain, but you know, your intended audience here are Hackers! No one at Yahoo uses Linux..???

Does anyone know if there will be another Developer/Hack Day? I missed the last one.
Comment by Christian Anderson — December 9, 2006 #
@Christian: We have every intention of doing another Hack Day, yes. We haven’t announced any dates as yet, but a good way to stay up-to-date on any announcements would be to subscribe to the RSS feed for the blog over at the Hack Day website. -Eric
