I checked out Protonotes, and can envision this tool being pretty useful, especially for development teams that are geographically dispersed. Although AARF is a global company, and we share ideas and resources globally, we tend to (try) to scope our development work locally. Personal, face to face collaboration between team members is crucial for the "design process" as we know it. The consulting industry is all about human relationships, and that ideology tends to cascade down to development. So, to answer your question, we probably SHOULD spend more time documenting and annotating work, but the simple truth is that we usually work in real time, collaboratively using real post-its and print outs that are pasted all over our meeting room walls.
